Gas Buddy

Here in LA gas prices can range greatly even on the same block.   Right now there's a 46 cent difference per gallon between the lowest and highest priced stations in my neighborhood.

I never fill up without checking the Gas Buddy app first.   It shows you the cheapest prices in the area as well as giving you some incentives for updating the prices.  You get points every time you submit an update.  You can then trade these points for an entry to win a $250 gas card in a weekly drawing.   I've been using the app for over a year haven't won any free gas yet but I still love Gas Buddy and highly recommend it.

Call Your Cable Company!

Here's a tip that has worked for me a lot over the years.   Call your cable company.  I have Time Warner and their customer service is consistently excellent.   Every few months call them and just ask if there's anything you can do to lower your bill.

I do this all the time and normally there is some deal or promotion available.  Just this week I switched from HBO to Showtime.  I was paying full price for HBO but I can get Showtime for $9.99 for the next 12 months.

A few week ago I called and was concerned that my internet bill was getting too high.  I now have a special price for the next 12 months which lowers my internet bill by $20/month.

Recently Time Warner started charging a monthly fee to rent their modems.  I didn't want that extra expense so I got my own modem and returned the Time Warner one.  While I was there I inquired about any current specials.   Just for asking I was able to get 2 DVRs for free for 3 months.

What I have learned over the years of dealing with TWC is that there are usually deals to be had, but you have to ask.  They will never offer them but as long as you ask and the special price is available you will usually find yourself in luck.

Viggle!

Viggle is my favorite app at the moment.  It combines two of my favorite things - free stuff and TV.  You actually get free stuff for watching TV.   At first I was cashing in my points for Starbucks gift cards but now I'm saving points for a big ticket item.  You can get great things like an iPod Touch, Kindle Fire or Apple TV all for watching TV!

I never watch TV without Viggle anymore.  In addition to the points you get just for watching your favorite shows you can get bonus points for playing trivia games, watching ads and playing their version of fantasy football called MyGuy.  There are also special featured shows every day that give you extra points just for tuning in.  It's fun and easy but most of all it's free.  Get Viggling!

Viggle is available for both IOS and Android.

Sears Shop Your Way Rewards

Today I noticed an email from Sears. It said I had over $10 of Sears Shop Your Way Rewards points about expire. I hate letting free money go to waste so I went to Sears. I picked up this great top for the gym. It was originally marked $36 but on sale for $12.99. I used my rewards points and this top cost me a total of $2.96 including tax!
